SPRINGFIELD – He sits at his perch at the north end of the MassMutual Center’s ice surface. He’s behind the glass, yet very close to the action. As the game surges on before him, his eyes never waver from the net.
At the appropriate time, he flashes a red light. Goal.
It’s a demanding job, coming with pressure from the fans around him at home games of the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons.
The fans sometimes boo and holler, but none of that bothers him or deters him from his appointed task.
He is a goal judge, a role he has loved since the days of professional hockey at the Eastern States Coliseum.
